Brady Norvell in Mr. Cornelsen’s class is the 2011 King Elementary Geographic Bee Champion! He pulled it out in a close final round with last year’s champion, Zach Shenkin, in the difficult question and answer format competition held Wednesday, December 15, 2010 in the cafeteria. Brady and Zach were two of 20 participants from the 4th and 5th grade classes who qualified for the competition. Brady will take a written test to determine his eligibility to compete at the state level competition to be held this spring.
The National Geographic Bee is a national competition sponsored by the National Geographic Society to encourage the study of Geography. It is open to all 4th – 8th graders under the age of 15 in the United States and its territories. The first place prize in the national competition is a $25,000 college scholarship.
The other contestants in the King competition were Claire Campbell, Dana Ruffato, Richard Dutton, Nicole Schroeter, Jacob Alvarez, Landon North, Emily Little, Wil Henkel, Carson Sygitowicz, Anica Johnston, Brittani Shappell, Kaitlyn Harvey, Sahale Chisholm, Kyrene Eddy, Logan Phillips, Carson Gutierrez, Sam Risser, and Erik Johnson.
